Lombok heat survey

A summer of walking the same twelve streets with a handheld sensor at two in the afternoon, to find out where a neighborhood is hottest and why.

For the fieldwork course I measured air temperature on twelve streets in Lombok on eight afternoons in July and August 2025, always between 14:00 and 15:30, always the same route. The spread was bigger than anyone in the group guessed: up to 4.1 degrees between the paved stretch of the Kanaalstraat and the courtyard behind the Molenpark on the same afternoon. The report matches each reading to surface material, orientation and tree cover, and ends with a map the neighborhood council asked to use in its own green plan. Group work with two classmates; I ran the sensor and made the maps.
