Utrecht has fourteen allotment complexes inside the ring road and nobody had a current list of who uses them. For the Green Space and the City course I visited all fourteen in April and May 2024, measured the plots from the cadastral map, counted the sheds and greenhouses and talked to 61 gardeners about how long they had waited for a plot. The average wait was four years and two months; the longest was eleven. The census became a short report with one page per complex and a table the allotment federation now keeps up to date itself, which is the part I am proudest of.
